Well, that was a painful break-up (with our daycare). We left a letter because none of the owners were there this morning and when we came in (all trepidation and holding hands) this afternoon - the owner was crying! Crying! And said she wanted to just shut down, it was too painful taking care of kids and watching them leave. And there was no point continuing and maybe she would move to Tennessee. Also, was there anything they could do to change our minds? Cut the rates? Change anything? They had watched our kid grow up, they would miss her. Oh no, we kept saying, no. It's not you, it's us. We have to do this, no choice. And it's true - asking them to stop giving our kid terrible junk food and bad books and to spell better is asking them to be someone they're not. They are caring, kind people with good hearts. But we're Just Not That Into Them, in a long term way. We were silent in the car, after extracting ourselves, and without speaking, AH turned into our local beer and pizza place for a much needed pint to steady our nerves and mutual reassurance that we Have Done the Right Thing. I hope.
