I feel all spendy lately, just stuff I kinda need, I promise, but in the midst of the recession, it feels odd. Though, actually, the recession has (knock on wood) not changed anything for us YET, so actually I kinda feel compelled to buy things, to support my local stores. Things bought in the last week: 1. Sherman Alexie's "Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian..." for my nephew, from my favourite local bookstore. (Review on Goodreads that called this book filthy and Twilight "tasteful" cracked me up - I guess masturbation is somehow worse than a mortal girl with a serious masochistic need for the undead to have sex with her) 2. Purpose face soap - because it rules and nothing shall ever take its place. 3. An olive/chartreuse greeny crepey fancy dress with cap sleves for the Spain wedding and somehow, I have the perfect vintage gold low heeled shoes and gold 60's purse to go along. Now I need jewelery, which I believe I have never said before. 4. Jergens summer glowy self-tan lotion - an impulse buy, somehow to make up for/cover up the many mosquito bites I acquire on my legs. 5.A pair of Keen Barcelona Mary-Janes and some Keen water shoes because frankly, sea floors make me nervous. And they were so very much on sale, $55 for the two of them. 6. A super-cool looking baby bike seat, you can see here which I am very very excited about putting into use ASAP. It gets here Monday and I kind of want it to change my life. 7. I spent $15 on a co-pay today, for my kids Dr.'s appointment, an appointment requested by her pediatrician because she had a mild ear infection last month, for which he prescribed antibiotics, which we did not give her, and he wanted a follow up. After having to take her to work because the appointment wasn't until 11 am and there was no point in dropping her off to daycare for one hour, I then sat in the doctor's waiting room until 11:40, 40 minutes after said appointment, was ushered in to undress my screaming, sleepy child to be weighed and finally her Doctor popped his head in at noon and said "What are we here for today?" and I kinda wanted to say "You tell me!" I like her Pediatrician but would it kill him to look at the chart first, so he knew why we were there? Literally one minute later he finished checking both her ears, pronounced her fine and looked at me as if I was kinda crazy for bringing her in again. It wasn't my idea sir! Nor was it mine to take the whole dang morning. 8. My day was kinda shot from there. At 4 pm, I rolled up to the drug store and bought my kid an inflatable pink marbled ball and a 6-pack of Miller Hi-Life (uh, that was for the adults) and I checked out of work to eat tacos and watch the spelling bee and the thunderstorm. Priceless.
