Two food related things today : #1 AH went to the grocery store tonight and among the items I'd requested was an Italian loaf for making garlic toast tomorrow (it's a Superbowl thing). Apparently he has never made garlic toast and was paralyzed with indecision at the bakery when the guy asked if he wanted it sliced. "Should I slice it? It's for garlic toast" said AH "I don't know" said the baker guy. "Maybe?" Worried silence. "Maybe half? I should slice half thin?" "Ok" said AH. And lo, I have a half sliced, half whole Italian loaf on my counter. "I knew I would be at least half-right" was his defense. #2 We were having lunch at a Chinese restaurant this afternoon, in our continuing quest to find one we like here, and an older man in a baseball hat was seated at the table next to us. He was carrying two plastic shopping bags with a box of Fruity Pebbles in one and a gallon of milk in the other. The waiter asked if he wanted a drink. He asked for ice water. The waiter returned and asked for his order. "I'd like a bowl" he replied. Slightly confused, the waiter came back with an empty soup bowl and the man asked for a little more time. When the waiter left, he pulled out the box of cereal and started to pour it into the bowl. My eyes were bugging out of my head, trying to subtly gesture the situation to AH but failing miserably. Finally the owner lady came over and said "You cannot do that. It's a restaurant. You can't bring your own food." "I can't?" he said. "No", she said. He packed up his shopping bags and left.
