Kids today:
Table of freshmen next to us (we were having a long luxurious Friday 2 beer lunch, thank you) were finishing their meal, 2 girls, 2 guys.
Girl 1: I'm surprised by McCain's choice of running mate.
(My ears perk up, surprised by their political discussion - and um, surprised? I was kinda gobsmacked, to be honest. So let's hear what the Youth of Today think....)
No reply from table. Boys look down. Are they embarassed that they don't have an opinion, I think? Wondering how to talk about Palin to these women, their peers?
Nope. They were looking on their iPhones, looking up stories. Then they held their iPhones up to each other silently, showing each other the headlines. Still no discussion. One boy finally said. "McCain's a perv." Then they berated the 4th girl for not having an iPhone. End of political discussion. Children ARE the future.

I gotta say, I'm pretty torn by femninist sites like Shakesville sticking up for Palin, saying that's how feminism works, you stand up for every woman. I'm not sure I support - nay, defend - a woman because she happens to have two X chromosomes when her policies are completely anti-feminist themselves. Do you deserve the protection if you don't extend it yourself to others? I gueeeeessss....maybe....actually, No. Nope. Not for me. Removed from feed Shakesville, removed from feed. Call me petty but seriously people - if this ticket wins, it's over between me and America, for reals. I have spent the last week handwriting letters to women in my voting precinct who registered to vote in the primary but didn't - offering help, information ANYTHING to get em all out and voting. This was all organized by the fantastic Obama people in my town. I don't want to be a nit-picky no-fun political jerk but really, truly - what can you do yourself to make more one more vote count? Or be cast? I'm living proof a full schedule can fit it in somehow. Please, please. Don't make me move again.
I approved this message, though many hate it, I'm sure.
