My old old old laptop blew up and I am writing this from my new one, brand and shiny new, the first computer I have consciously bought for myself. You know when people post youtube clips in their blogs? Til today I could never see them because it would just take forever to load and half the time crash the thing. I have a feeling it's a whole new world. Also it weighs about the equivalent of 10 paperclips. This modern world!
Because it runs on batteries (I know, can you believe it?) I am in the living room typing while a second viewing of "Across the Universe" slides by on the TV. I had no expectations for this movie but it's awfully pretty and fun to watch. Not to mention the extremely cute J. Sturgess/Jude.
I find myself on the horns of a work dilemma. Today I was offered the job at the Private Rich University's Art Library that I did the HORRIBLE interview for a few weeks back. I wasn't expecting that and have been busy pumping out my resume to other internships including one very very interesting one in my schools film/photo archives that I have an interview for this Friday with an interesting and funny woman who I think I could actually be friends with. Not to be too dramatic but one job leads in one direction (reference, academic libraries, instruction) and the other leads to archives work. The latter is my stronger interest but so many less jobs and opportunities long term...ack. This is one of those times when I long long long for a mentor. Or a grad school advisor worth her salt, or hey, one I'd even ever talked to. Maybe I'm being too dramatic, maybe one internship won't direct my whole life. I need a Career Magic 8 Ball, I swear at this point I would take a hunk of plastics advice. So I told HR I needed a whole damn week to decide. They weren't happy exactly, but I had to do it, go to the second interview and just see. Oh yeah, and try and firm up daycare. Which is actually the biggest deal of all. Help! So begins the oft-cited trouble of balancing work life and Mom life.
