If you have to work on a Sunday, you may as well be sitting in a patch of sun, live streaming The Prairie Home Companion, full on bagels, salmon and cream cheese, and know that your loved one is in the studio today fulfilling musical dreams. It eases the sting, a little. A word on the salmon - I made a dinner last night I feel absurdly satisfied about. I had bok choy, shitake mushrooms and blood oranges left over from my Yuppie Organics to You delivery, which sparked a desire to try out Jeannette's amazing sounding recipe (all her recipes sound amazing - see here!) of a blood orange, ginger, soy and garlic marinade for fish. Lo and behold, wild Alaskan salmon was on sale for $6 a pound at my local beloved market so we got a whole side of a (RIP) fish. Brown basmati rice pilaf with rosemary picked from the garden, baby bok choy and shitakes sauteed in soy and butter, a little blue bowl of perfectly ripe mango, the flaky, citrusy gingery salmon, candles, a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and many toasts to our mutual awesomeness made the perfect Saturday night. This morning AH rode out for the aforementioned bagels and cream cheese while I pickled some red onions, flaked the salmon and got out the capers, with strong coffee and cream and a little Kinder chocolate and a hefty newspaper made the perfect Sunday morning. Lucky lucky girl. I did hear from Grad School number two yesterday which set off a flurry of wondering if I could really live in NJ and how long the commuter train between New Brunswick and NYC takes (40 minutes, as it happens) and lots of dreams of visiting the Brooklyn friends and neighborhoods and FOOD, oh lord the food! while living in the cheap NJ Grad Apartments...every time we hear from someone, for a day or two I am completely convinced that's where we should move. How I will actually decide by April 15th, for reals, I do not know. Help! As a closer, the moment that had me smiling all week happened in film class . It's a big class and I always try and determine if the TA or the Prof is the one who graded my weekly paper. This week there was little doubt. My paper was on the Seventh Seal and the marker wrote next to my concluding sentence: "OMG, you are so awesome! Gold star! My favorite paper in many terms of marking! You are rad!" I suspect my 60+ Irish blustery Professor did not write those remarks. (By the way, the paper was not that great but I did quote the "OMG I am so awesome" line to myself all week when I felt a little down). May you all know you are so awesome this coming week. Another cheer-inducing activity is making films. AH and I are working on a movie for his Mom's birthday culled from old family movies we converted to DVD and the sheer beauty of just setting some rollerskating kids footage from the 80's to Big Star has made me excited all over again about making movies. The Super 8's have been pulled out and plans are afoot. Life! Is! Good!
